Coven battles use the autobattle mechanics for attacking. The player chooses the type of attack they want to use, servants to help them attack and spells/boost to increase damage output. The player can apply different tactics depending on the situation. Learn more about it here.
How scores are calculated?
Coven's score depends on several factors:
- Players' personal damage. All battle participants deal damage to their opponents' coven. You can find how much damage you've dealt to the opponents below the battle screen, at the "Rewards" page, at the "Rating" page, and at the "Round Finished" page.
- Coven's total damage. It is calculated by adding up personal damage of all battle participants from the coven.
- Amount of active players. Active players are players who have logged in their Witchcraft account in the last 2 weeks regardless of their participation in the battle. Inactive players don't count.
- Amount of newbies.Newbies are players below level 300. Please note that the amount of newbies in the Score formula cannot be greater than 20% of active players.
Formula
Total Score = Total Damage / (Active Players - Newbies)
The coven that has the highest score wins the battle. Example:
Coven A dealt 1 000 000 damage, they have 25 active players, 7 of them are players below level 300. We take into account only up to 20% of newbies, so the final number of newbies to subtract will be 5. Coven B dealt 1 500 000 damage, they have 37 active players, 2 of them are players below level 300. All newbies fit into 20% so we subtract all of them.
Total Score A = Total Damage / (Active Players - Newbies) = 1 000 000 / (25 - 5) = 50 000 Total Score B = Total Damage / (Active Players - Newbies) = 1 500 000 / (37 - 2) = 42 857
Coven A wins with a higher score but lower damage and lower number of active players. Coven B could’ve improved their results by a better show-up (more total damage), improving their efficiency (more damage per player), and by introducing up to 5 more low-level players who wouldn’t affect their active player number (but increase their total damage).
Please note that victory depends on the score and not the total damage.
Why the formula counts all active players, not the amount of battle participants?
It prevents undesirable score manipulation tactics (for example, if 1 or 2 strongest players in a coven are the only participants) and allows all players in a coven to make their contribution in a battle.
If an inactive player returns to the game in the middle of a battle would they be counted?
No. They will be able to join the battle and deal damage but they won't be counted in the "Active players" part of the formula.
Why all players below level 300 are considered newbies?
Coven battles require great effort and resources. Battle participants should deal as much damage as they can and heal their coven mates. It requires good equipment, high level spells and boosts, and skills. Players who are not of the highest levels may not have everything listed above. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't participate in coven battles! Newbies can actually get a lot from them: lots of gold, experience, and other rewards to help them upgrade their character faster.
Does the size of the coven influence its chance to win a battle?
Indirectly. It's harder for a bigger coven to have all its active players in the battle. But bigger covens have other advantages that smaller covens don't have. The outcome of the battle depends more on how active the participants are. The more active players participate in the battle, the higher the chances of victory.
