In addition to minimum level, each monster has a set of items or stats you should have before you'll be able to summon the monster. These items and stats are only necessary to summon a monster, joining the monster is free.
When summoning monsters, you may need some items purchased in the shop, potions made in alchemy, items found in quests, or certain minimum values of important game stats. Some of the items are consumed when you summon the monster.
